Resource Added: 04.04.06

Want to play some of those cool Santana drum patterns, well here is an easy Afro-Cuban drum groove that uses the Double Paradiddle as the root rhythm.

::Getting the Hands Ready::

- Double Paradiddle Sticking:   R L R L R R   L R L R L L
- (R=Right Hand | L=Left Hand)

You can play the double paradiddle as either six's or triplets. Six's are a grouping of six and triplets are a grouping of three.

To count the double paradiddles as six's, play the rhythm and count:
(R)| 1-2-3-4-5-6  (L)1-2-3-4-5-6
(R)| R L R L R R  (L) L R L R L L

To count the double paradiddle as triplets, play the rhythm and count:
| 1 - an - a      2 - an - a       3 - an - a      4 - an - a
| R    L    R      L   R     R       L    R    L      R    L    L

Spend some time on your practice pad working out the sticking of the double paradiddle. Start slow and gradually increase the tempo only when you are able to play the pattern even and smooth.

Application to the drumset :: Playing the double paradiddle pattern, play the right hand sticking on the hi-hat and play the left hand sticking on the snare drum.

::Adding the kick drum::

For now we are going to stick with a simple bass drum patten on the kick drum. If you are playing the double paradiddle pattern as six's, add the kick drum on counts 1 and 3 of the right double paradiddle, the first grouping of six counts.

If you are playing the double paradiddle as triplets, add the kick drum on counts 1 and A of the right double paradiddle, in the first grouping of three.
